What do you mean practice?
I've been making enigmatic portraits since I started studying art. It seemed like that should be painting and printmaking, but I happened to take a photo class because of the new professor, and she was so inspiring, I followed her to graduate school. She was an amazing mentor. I'll tell you about her! Professionally, I have been an educator researching and writing original lectures, challenges, and reflection on exhibitions. It's daunting to think of home many hundreds of students I worked with, to make great pictures, think about visual culture critically, use what they have, look for light, compose an interesting frame, and work with the settings on their own cameras.
Where are my pictures?
Your digital gallery is under the CLIENTS tab in the menu. Please try to download your files from the online gallery expires! Just send me an email. If you just had your photos made, I'll have them backed up while editing. When I'm done, you can expect a couple emails with a link to your online gallery, password and download pin with instructions. Select the ones you love, let me know if you want any of the files prepared differently, and back up all of your images. If you arranged for delivery of bigger files, I'll transfer your selections through another service.
I want Prints to frame!
YAY! Prints are my specialty. I love papers, I love photo printmaking processes! My favorite digital paper is Hahnemühle, a velvety matte fine art paper, but there are so many to choose from. I'll print you some artful images, select your faves! You'll have a set of digital images to download and are great to send to your choice of lab too. If you have questions, just ask!
What is your camera?
I use a full frame D-SLR Nikon with several lenses. I have a backup body, some lights, audio equipment, a multi tool and gaff tape... I always need it.
I have a bevy of analog film cameras, 35mm, and my trusty perfectly imperfect toy HOLGA, a Fuji 6x7, a 4x5 view camera with red bellows, and my century old sears 5x7 field camera, to name just a few. But, if we need something different, I can rent the right equipment for the job!

Hi, what's going on in your life?
I'm Chelsea, and this is my yearly headshot outtake for you! Made by my friend Monika while we test the strobes in preparation for the lines of people coming through a huge conference. It looks like I might be talking? I'm not sure, but it looks like I'm probably catching up, asking what's new, how it's going. Usually something like what book can't you stop thinking about? Have you tried any new recipies? What did you find at that impromptu stop? How am I looking, and how should I look?
What's the photographic autobiography you can't stop thinking about?
Hold Still: A Memoir with Photographs by Sally Mann - As soon as it came out, after hearing a sample chapter at a local humanities festival. It's a poignant consideration of her life as a photographer, and a stoic account of her position as a mother and artist in the culture wars when controversy was thrust onto her vision... Then again, there's Just Kids...
What's your favorite paper to print With?
I used to consider nothing more rich and velvety than a fine art Hahnemuhle paper like German Etching or even Photo Rag... Now I can be found with glossy and Japanese papers in my flat files!
Do you have any Hobbies?
Yes. I LOVE to read! I like live music and local bands, and really want to officially be more involved in environmental conservation, such as work with Bioneers, and the Alliance for Great Lakes.
If you weren't making photographs of me right now, what other mediums would you be using?
I make a big deal over prints because I love printmaking, wood block printing... I like watercolors and weird encounters with sculptural objects... I have been writing songs, and have a few projects going on as always... What was the last thing you made?
